Dr. Matthew Barnes is a native of Nashville, Tenn. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tenn., after attending Furman University in Greenville, where he earned his undergraduate degree in history. He also completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Tennessee, where he served as chief resident before completing his fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology.
Dr. Barnes is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He enjoys all aspects of gastroenterology, but has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease, biliary tract disorders, liver disease, and colon cancer prevention. He is also a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastroenterological Endoscopy.
Dr. Barnes and his wife, Megan, have two daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, playing golf, cooking/grilling, and spending time with his family.
